Notes

  • The origin of the school is still uncertain, one theory says the founder was from the UKAI SCHOOL(宇甘派), the other says Kanenori founded the school and he was a descendant of the OSAFUNE SCHOOL(長船派).
  • Some of the smiths of the school moved to Izumo province later on and founded the Michinaga school(道永派) there.
  • During the Nanbokucho period, when the school was founded, almost all the sword schools made a robust-looking sword with a wide and thick blade and a large KISSAKI(切先) in order to use a sword from the horseback. But the Yoshii school’s swords made in this period are not like that, they are smaller and slenderer and the reason behind it remains uncertain.
