YASUKUNI-TO(靖国刀) refers to the swords made by the swordsmiths of Nihonto Tanren Kai (Japanese Sword Forging Association).
- Tokyo metropolis
- In 1933, Nihonto Tanren Kai was founded at the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo in order to supply highly-qualified Japanese swords to the Japanese army officers during World War 2. Nearly 30 smiths worked there and produced no less than 8,100 swords for 12 years.
- Yasukuni-To was modeled after the works of Nagamitsu(長光) or Kagemitsu(景光) of the OSAFUNE SCHOOL(長船派).
- As being linked to world war 2, Yasukuni-To had been undervalued until the end of Showa period(1988). But once the sword collectors recognized its quality, Yasukuni-To has gained large popularity worldwide.
