Yamashiro Tradition, also known as Yamashiro-den, refers to the schools developed in Yamashiro province. It also refers to the common characteristics of these schools’ swords.

Hamon : NIE-DEKI(沸出来), SUGUHA(直刃).
Boshi : O-MARU(大丸). Short KAERI(返り)

Notes


  • Yamashiro was the imperial capital of the time, so the swords produced there are more appearance oriented.
  • Among the local major schools of the time, Awataguchi school’s swords remain the least. This is because most of their swords were highly prized and owned by a number of lords, and when these lords lost major battled their swords were destroyed and burned.
