TAIRYUSAI SOKAN(泰龍斎宗寛) was a swordsmith active in the Edo city of Musashi.

Shape : Robust-looking long sword with a sallow SORI(反り).
Hada : Very finely-grained so that any pattern cant be seen. UTSURI(映り).
Hamon : NIOI-DEKI(匂出来). The blend of GUNOME(互の目) and CHOJI(丁子). Tight NIOIKUCHI(匂口). SUGUHA(直刃) is rare.
- Tairyusai Sokan was born in Mutsu province, but in 1851 he moved to the Edo city of Musashi province to learn under the famous smith of the time KOYAMA MUNETSUGU (固山宗次). His style was largely influenced by his teacher but his swords look more robust.
- Until 1854, He made his sword under the smith name Abukumagawa Sokan(阿武隈川宗寛).
- He changed inscribing his signature in the square style to the cursive style in 1856.
