SHOWATO(昭和刀)

What is Showato(昭和刀)?

  • In most cases, Showato refers to swords made during world war 2 only. The swords made after the war are not included.
  • Most of Showato are not made in the traditional way and from the Japanese steel called Tamahagane(玉鋼). For that reason, some even say that it’s more like a sword-shaped iron plate than a real Japanese sword.
  • The Showato, which is made from the car spring, is referred to as “Springto(スプリング刀)” also. It is well-known for its sharpness.
