What influenced the change in the shape of sword made in the middle to late Muromachi period? (1467-1595)

Following the battle of the Onin war, fighting methods changed from a cavalry style of combat to a mass infantry style. At this time, instead of the long TACHI(太刀), the KATANA(刀) became more popular for mobility, and from this period the Samurai started to wear their swords with the blade facing up, so the blade could be unsheathed both quickly and easily.
