NAOE-SHIZU SCHOOL(直江志津派) was a Japanese sword school founded by some pupils of SHIZU SABURO KANEUZI(志津三郎兼氏) in the Naoe village(直江村), Mino province(美濃).
- Middle Nanbokucho period to the Early Muromachi period (1350-1392)
Famous Swordsmiths from the school
Shape : Wider swords with a bigger KISSAKI(切先). TANTO (短刀) is quite rare.
Hada : Kind of whitish MOKUME-HADA(杢目肌) mixed with fine-grained MASAME-HADA(柾目肌).
Hamon : NIE-DEKI(沸出来), Pointed GUNOME(互の目), SUNAGASHI(砂流し) and KINSUJI(金筋) apparent.
Boshi : JIZO(地蔵), longer KAERI(返り).
Others : Almost all their swords don’t have signatures, due to O-SURIAGE(大磨上).
- The sword by the Naoe Shizu school are reminiscent of their teacher’s sword. But the schools’s swords don’t have as much Sunagashi as their teacher’s ones.
