NAMINOHIRA SCHOOL(波平派) was a Japanese sword school founded by Yukiyasu(行安) in Satsuma province.

Shape : Deep SORI(反り). Small KISSAKI(切先).
HadaITAME-HADA(板目肌) blended with MOKUME-HADA(杢目肌).
HamonNIE-DEKI(沸出来). SUGUHA(直刃).

  • The founder’s father, Masakuni lived in Yamato province before moving to Satsuma province so the Naminohira school’s swords have many characteristics of the YAMATO Tradition(大和伝).
  • The schools’ old swords made from the Heian to Nanbokucho period are often categorized as the Ko-Naminohira school (古波平).
  • The founder’s name “Naminohira Yukiyasu(波平行安)” literary means “Calm Wave Goes Safely”. For this reason, his swords were very popular among people who were related to maritime businesses, and his name was succeeded through many generations until the Meiji period.
