What is Katana(刀)?
- Katana means a Japanese sword with a blade over 60 cm. Katana is the collective term for Japanese sword also.
- Originally Katana is designed for ground combat, whereas Tachi(太刀) is for use on horseback.
- Katana is carried with the cutting edge facing up to draw quickly for unexpected fights. This manner started around the late Sengoku period(戦国時代) when many wars occurred around the country very often.
