KANESADA(兼定) was a Japanese swordsmith in the Seki area of Mino province. His name was succeeded through many generations until the end of the Edo period. He was rated at O-wazamono ranking.

Shape : Sword with a higher SHINOGI-SUJI(鎬筋). WAKIZASHI (脇差) is quite rare.
Hada : Finely-grained MOKUME-HADA(杢目肌) blended with ITAME-HADA(板目肌).
Hamon : Pointed CHOJI(丁子) or GUNOME(互の目).
Boshi : MIDARE-KOMI(乱れ込み), JIZO(地蔵) or KO-MARU(小丸).
- The smith’s descendants also worked under the name of Kanesada. In order to differentiate them, they’re often classified by generation and called by a nickname; the 1st generation as Oya-Kanesada(親兼定), the 2nd as Nosada(之定) and the 3rd generation as Hikisada(疋定).
- The 2nd generation Kanesada was rated to the SAIJO-O-WAZAMONO(最上大業物) ranking and his swords were possessed by many notable people namely; Akechi Mitsuhide(明智光秀), Shibata Katsuie(柴田勝家), Hosokawa Tadaoki(細川忠興).
