ICHIMAI BOSHI(一枚帽子)

What is Ichimai Boshi(一枚帽子)?

ichimai boshi japanese sword

  • Ichimai Boshi refers to a BOSHI(帽子), located where KISSAKI(切先) is fully or almost fully hardened. In some cases, the outline of Boshi is more often found near YOKOTE(横手).
  • This Boshi was developed as a technique to allow the repair of a Kissaski, which cause an area of a sword to break easier than other parts of a sword in a battle. So that Ichimai Boshi is commonly found in KOTO Period(古刀) swords, the age of war, rather than the peaceful Edo period.
